07.10.04: hope everybody is
doing dandy! have you tried enjoying our many new mp3’s
in the music section? hope so! (so far that is about the only
cool new thing around since going dot.com. still can’t
figure out why the pictures aren’t working. sorry about that! um,
speaking of mp3’s, touring planning is in full swing and there is
much news on that front. head over to the masa tour page to check out where and how
1985, goldstar and circus of the
stars is gonna get to NYC and back. fun times! I have to
go right now (eli from palisades is about to pick me up and
give me a ride northward). new songs and masa shows and masa goods galore! Hope everyone is busy few days! rock,
rock on! 06.25.04: two months of
silence, eh? geez, sorry about that. much has been happening despite
the quiet on the web front. as you can see, we finally went dot-commy on your asses. still looks the same, but w/o a lot of the
pop-up hassle and such (give us a week or so to iron out all the bugs
from transferring over). this now means we have tons of webspace, which means tons more sharing with you. i uploaded a bunch
of new mp3’s, which are now available in the music section. a lot of the added tunes
are from the “hello, my name is masa” compilation, which you should check out (hopefully we will get some to pool or
pond for you web purchasers in the next week). there are two other new
releases this month: the latter is the 1985 debut and the former is quite
possibly the a sandcastle still swan song. nearly
fifty minutes of mellow, moody acoustic
four-track goodness on each. some of the newer masa
releases have been getting
some press in the last month, and i willl try to have those reviews up for
your reading pleasures (a few might already be available over at the
message board). looking to the near future, 1985 is heading out on a
month-long tour (via greyhound) to hit up the RNC in NYC to do a little 1st
amendment exercising. check out this and this site for more information as to
why this is an important occasion. masa is beaming
with glee about the
next batch of releases, including sears catalog, palisades, sunset riders and
more. autumn is our favorite time of year! anyways, hope you are
enjoying your days! check some masa tunes! [just about everything] 04.15.03:

03.09.04:
so, quick update. the seven inches are finally in and done! yippie. this split with lands farther east and the seizures, both who rock and both who are defunct, is available via mail order right now. see the releases page for info on how to get your hands on one. also, within a few days to a week they should be in town at viva la vinyl (bham's exclusive masa outlet, GET IT?) and online via the wonderful pool or pond. a batch of other records should soon be available at pool or pond as well with a week or two. in other news, the sears catalog just recorded some tracks for their new album this past weekend. word has it the session was a lot of fun and had b-18 in tow and adding some extras to a few of the songs. wow! kevin, who recorded the western union ep, manned the boards along with bret from Lightpost Records. there are a few shows in the upcoming shows list, as well as over a handful of masa showcases being planned for late april and early may. hopefully, cots and 1985 will be hitting the road
for a stint around june-time. hope your day is going well! [ news/shows/artists/releases ]
02.27.04:
sorry about the lack of update action here. it truly doesn't reflect the level of excitement of things around the masa camp. first and foremost, on a highly bittersweet note, bham favorite's lands farther east are calling it quits. ironic, considering their split seven inch with another
"defunct" packaging. good thing members of both bands are active and planning activities outside the ashes. i am currently listening to the wipers album "over the edge," courtesy of the great Richie Boyer who happens
to own Viva La Vinyl, which is outlet store. Richie actually okayed a small masa display box on top of one of those great glass display cases. Give Boyer a pat on the back the next time you stop by Viva, he truly is one of the nicest people in the community and he works hard at helping local musicians out. march should see a few more masa releases drop your way. including a yr heart breaks tape, a new a sandcastle still album, a new jimes album, the seven inch, etc. me and james have been working hard to get the clam dust album ready for you, and it should be done in another week. his stuff is real good and we will try to get a few mp3's up soon to share. speaking of mp3's, tim keeps adding tracks to this COTS page and there are a batch of new COTS songs on the music page, including a great cover of "Brand New Colony" by the Postal Service. speaking of postal service, i am sorry to any of you that sent things the masa way, our po box was out of commission for a month or so and all incoming mail was returned. it is back in service and if you trust us enough we will cover any addition postage it took for you to mail your orders or letters in. once again, sorry. anyways, "that is all for now," which i say with confidence that i will be back soon with more info. check the message board if you want. some masa related material is getting posted there. hope your winters are fading like ours...
12.16.03:
the holiday season has opened up some time for the old masa family and we are busy polishing some things up and creating some new found glories. wait, isn't that the name of some emo band? whoops. anyhow, plenty of new indeed. we are busy trying to restock our old friend john over at pool or pond with a handful of newer masa releases for all those who would rather order online then via snail mail. also, even though
there are plenty of good local business in weight, it has been decided that richie's shop, viva la vinyl, will be the exclusive b'ham retail outlet for our fine product. all this is to say look for newer stuff from cardinal, sears catalog, b-18, jimes, dodi, ass, your heart breaks breaking on those scenes shortly. oh, hey! guess what? by next week there be in existence the first ever masa records sampler! it is going to be called "hello my name is masa" and will feature all our rising stars and standard sword bearers. yippie! it will be for free. so, try to bump into to me on the streets and pull my sleeve for one. they will also be free with any purchase over at pool or pond. if you want me to mail you one, send me a buck and i shall. there will be more info on the comp within the week, so LOOK OUT! by now, i imagine you have noticed the new color scheme. some fools, ie tim, were whining about how hard on the eyes the red/orange combo was... this one is for you tim. i didn't realize, though that it looks a lot like the last asaurus records incarnation, but luckily matthew (in all his speedy glory) has moved on already. okay, well not enough of you are hitting up that old masa message board. maybe someday... you should go there and make it your own. so yeah, check the release page for ordering info and for info on the upcoming load of holiday masa recordings to be created and thrown your direction. jimes! dodi! yr heart breaks! sears catalog! cardinal! 1985! asss! b-18!
10.13.03:
so projects are in the works and some money is flowing in. how about a quick rundown? well, the site now has a nice message board. feel free to hop on over there and talk some shit about your favorite things. thanks to proboards for rocking that tip. the corner pocket, a NWNW music site and radio show, also has one that should be a little more fun if you are down with that local music scene. um, so masa! well this saturday is the jimes/dodi al
fayed cd release party in jason webley is capping the night, so it should be fun. the split will be a limited run of fifty. also coming out in a limited run of fifty is james from language arts solo four-track project, clam dust. though cardinal has called it quits, we will still be pushing their recent full-length, Michael Winslow Is The Human Sound Effects Machine. the western union ep is a six song, three band split between cardinal and recent masa additions, b-18 and sears catalog. it is an enjoyable 25 minute listen. for sure. hopefully all of these will be available for online purchase at pool or pond by november and in some stores here in the NW. tim made a new site for circus of the stars, in conjunction will his always pleasurable blog. there is rumours of a live cassette release for your heart breaks and, hopefully, this time around we will be able to pull through with this. speaking of pulling through, the lands farther east split seven inch with the seizures should be ready in time for christmas.
05.29.03:
hey. so welcome to the new site. it is a pretty rough setup right now, but the framework is there. can you handle the oranges and the reds? i hope so. anyways, rina over at bathtub recordings was nice enough to offer to host a song of a sandcastle still, so on the music page their is anew additon. thanks rina! anyways, hopefully this is the dawning of a new, exciting and productive era for MASA. there are many projects in
the works and hopefully some to be ready soon for you
