04.13.04:

so, ass camp equals dead camp. or, at least, 1985 camp.

thats right, yo. 1985 is taking over for ass at this point. check

there for many show updates and recordings. there is one ass album

still in the works, "From Penrose To Montrose." which should see a

June release or so. though thinks are quiet on the ass tip, masa

records is getting busy as hell. so, check it! there have been a

few site updates around here and, soon (hopefully), a new

domain for ass and the house of masa... hope your spring

is going super duper cooper swell! luv, ass! oh, and if you are

bored, a new DIY/LOW-FI collective message board has been

set up for a groupf like-minded folks and for you!

02.26.04:

so, the 1985 debut got pushed back a few months but finally

happened this last week. whew. sorry to those who helped out

with the shows we couldn't attend. there should be a few more shows

on the horizon soon, so check back here. also the ASS album "From

Penrose To Montrosem," a full length wrote and recorded in between

a three day, 65 hour sleepfest should be available soon. check the

masa page for updates on that and other related projects...

the masa records site just got a big overhaul, or color change.

and the masa records message board is a good place to get the

most up to date info on such things. hope to see you soon!

hopefully there will be some new MP3's to post shortly...

So, thanks again to the wonderful kids over at asaurus records for including "journal"

on their summer compilation ("Watermelon Should Last Forever")! there is tons of

great music and artists on this comp and it is only four dollars, so i strongly recommend

you support the diy indie ethic in this particular case... a few updates at this here site. i

added all the lyrics to the last two ass albums. added a few more pictures (the picture

above - of sylvia the geo, my guitar & a sign in the background that says '"notice of public

hearing"- was taken right after i recorded "The 35th Hawthorne Biography" in pdx last

summer. speaking of that album, there are only about 30 copies out there right now, but

there is a record release planned for september (on the one year anniversary of its

creation). speaking of additions and last september, i added a review of "The Four Elements"

record from the bellingham herald published last september. anyways, i have been

writing alot of material the last couple weeks. not sure these songs will fit, but they

are probably a scattering of ass, cardinal, every steady coastline AND 1985 songs.

can you tell the ass camp is getting excited for fall? finally, there will be no summer ass tour,

but look for me and circus of the stars out on the road to some degree before the end

of the year. we will probably contain ourselves to a west of the cascades adventure, but

i am sure it will be fun none the less. anyways, hope you all are well! see you soon!

07.04.03:

Hurray. happy fucking imperialism. not too much news here. i have begun

to work on a new project with brandon (from my little brother) and we are

calling ourselves 1985. but it is pronounced "unifying theories." it is all too

much to explain here, and so far more thought has gone into what the

project is about then actually into the playing and songwriting. i will share more

soon, it is gonan be alot of fun fo' shure. also, the ass song "journal" is being

including in the upcoming summer compilation from asaurus records. i

suggest you head over there and spend the rest of the time you were gonna here,

there. they are great, hardworking kids and it is a fun site to browse through.

06.17.03:

Yippie. That last show at the bowling alley was awesome. Great sets all

around by all involved. So, a few things coming up in the soon time. I am super

excited about the Vera Project show, as it will be my first non-house show

appearance in seattle, it is all-ages, it is free and there is gonna be a vegan

dinner. yum-yums! i am trying convince some friends to take over vocals

on one or two tracks, so that should make for even more excitement. in other

news, there are now copies of The 35th Hawthorne Biography available, though

the record release is not gonna be until september (a year to the day after i made it).

it is kind of a concept album and is not too user-friendly, but maybe a few

of you out there will be able to appreciate it! okay. hope you all are well!

05.29.03:

Hello everbody! I Hope you all are enjoying the lovely spring weather.

Just wanted to  let you know about a few upcoming shows. They  are

listed below. Also, Bathtub Recordings has been nice enough to  host

an ASS mp3 and you can hear via the link below. The MASA Records

website has recently been created, er, i mean... remodeled.  oh yeah,

and jay made a kick ass flyer for the june 14th show that you can

see it on the slo mo webpage. Check it out, yo!

05.08.03:

So, no upcoming shows to tell you about, but there is some newsies. I have rendered the next ASS album, "The 35th Hawthorne Biography," to cd from CASS and have a good sense of what the artwork and layout will look like. No word yet if West Of January will play a part in getting the album out, yet, but i am gonna try to shoot for a June release. The album was written and recorded in my Geo in Portland last September. It took about 45 minutes to make (it is about a half hour long), though I think it turned out well and I really like the mood and feel of it. Like "Bright Red Snowflake" it was recorded on a hand-held tape recorder. In other news, I am working on a collaboration project with Rina that will be an eight song split-EP between MASA Records and her label, Bathtub Recordings. Each of us is gonna do four songs, one original and three covers of the others songs. The six cover songs are gonna be unreleased tracks written especially for this album. So, yeah. I am working on a new project, tentively called The Unifying Theories, featuring me on guitar and vox, brandon (from MLB) on drums and vox and possibly a third utility player. It should be a lot of fun and will be more ASS based than Cardinal, with acoustic guitar and such. Cardinal has a few upcoming shows if your interested. Summer tour is in the planning stages for ASS & Circus of the Stars. I am excited! Anyways, hope you all are well and enjoying the Spring weather.

03.16.03:

once again there is not much to say in the ass camp right now. though it is spring-time and i have been feeling the urge to record some new things and get them to you to share. if your looking for some good tunes right now, you should check out Garden Variety Tsar, The Geese, Goldstar, USS Horsewhip and maybe even that new microphones album. I still have figured it out yet, though. anyways, hope you all are well and enjoying yourselves. and protesting current us international policy.

02.24.03:

Hope Sandoval & The Warm Invitationals - Bavarian Fruit Bread
Lullaby, Lullaby - an eighty north records compilation

Tori Amos - Boys For Pele
The Divorce - s/t EP

The Kissing Book - (s)
The Seconds - Y

So yeah, not much to report here in the ASS camp. I am trying to pull a last minute bribe sessions with those
cool cats over at the Twinkie Factory to let an ASS love song be on their awesome benefit comp. for Habitat For
Humanity
. I will let you know how that quest goes. Cardinal is recording with Rat Cat Robbie Hydra on
Sunday, so that is kind of stealing my energy. If i didn't mention it before, this summers tour is gonna be
with Tim who is also the Circus of the Stars. Some shows might be in the works in the next couple weeks,
I'll let you know if anything pans out. You should really buy that Hope Sandoval album.
It is flooring me so so so much right now. It is beyond me.

02.12.03:

Heavens To Betsy - Calculated
Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See
Ida - I Know About You
Rebecca Pearcy - Constellation

So hey kiddos! Hope everyone has been well and is thinking hard about the state of our union and just
what it is gonna take from each individual to try and save our country from the evil who move it now.
Such thoughts have been heavy on my mind. I am excited to quickly to quickly let you know
about three performances us related coming up, and a couple that are friends related:

01.27.03:

Ben Lee - something to remember me by
The Lucksmiths - why that doesn't suprise me
The Revolutionary Hydra - knockout to dispense
Lullaby, Lullaby - (an eighty-north records comp.)

The Rejections Film Fest Reception show last night was a lot of fun. A lot of people wound up sharing songs and there was an amazing spread of food, good drinks and times to be had by all. Garden Variety Tsar was awesome and I was happy to finally get to play a show with Chris. Super excitedf for his new album to come out on West of January . And Labrynt rocked the Goldstar tip as always. Later in the night several of us stood around singing to the Goldstar album which, as you should find out, is fucking amazing. I wanna start this series of recordings where I cvover a few songs by a friend and then the friend covers a few songs by me. Labrynt and I have talked about doing such an album and I am excited for that to possibly happen. Anyways, not sure when the next ASS sharing will be, but Cardinal has a show in Feb. and should be recordsing at the end of the month with Robbie from Rat Cat Hogan and The Revolutionary Hydra .

01.08.03:

Texas Radio and The Big Beat (unreleased?, 2002)
Land! Bravo (unreleased?, 2002)
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone : Answering Machine Music (Cassingle USA, 1999)
Built to Spill: Perfect From Now On (Warner, 1997)
The Microphones : Tests (Elsinor , 1999)
Rebecca Pearcy : Constellation ( Yo-Yo Recordings , 2002)
Basketball : s/t (Funanimal Co-Motion , 2002)

So, the show at the Factory the other night was fun. A good mix of different acoustic
leanings and styles between the four of us.
This guy came in from off the street with a
stand up bass right as i was  getting ready to go on and offered to play with me. He said
he could pick things up easy and we gave it a go. It was rough and, coupled with my having
not played in two months, hard to handle for some people. The bar was pretty cleared out by
the time the set was. It must have been the fact that i was last and it was getting late on a
monday night, right? I continue to be infatuated with the notion of simple 2-4 chord improv songs
to start and finish sets with. Though it might be boring to most, it is a fun and enjoyable
exercise for me. I'll will have to try and tape record some of these in the future,
since i don't like things getting lost to the moment. Anyways, Cardinal is still a big deal
to me right now, though I have been dorking around with the acoustic thing
and I hope to maybe record a song or two in the next month or so. I was invited
to be a part of two comps, which I won't mention the names of now since my
submissions are long overdue and I might not make it on them, but I I will
let you now how things turn out with that. The "Analog" album should be available
online soon through Pool or Pond and there are some copies floating around
at the usual b'ham stores. I think that is all for now...

12.16.02:

Sordid Humor: Light Music For Dying People CASSdb (Capricorn, 1994)
Goldstar: I Wish You All the Happiness You Allow Yourself CD (Lab Partner, 2002)
Asahi : Head Above Water CD ( West of January , 2002)
In Praise of Folly: Seemingly Perfect CD (self-released, 2002)
Karl Blau : Clothes Your I's CD (KNW-YR-OWN , 2001)
Lago Volunteers: Anchors Away (self-released, 2002)
Sonic Youth : Goo CD (DGC, 1990)
Sonic Youth : Murray Street WEB (DGC, 2002)

hey, so check it out yo! notice anything different???? yep, yep, yep!
web page is finally updated. do you think you can handle the space theme?
i hope so. i like it. i was gonna go for marbles as the background but then i
thought: "hey, why not go for galazies!" so anyways here we are! i have
really kind of been staying away from the solo acoustic vibe lately because of
two reasons. one, that car accident/hell event that happened on the summer tour
with Jon McIntyre really had an impact kind of spooked me. i have been
trying to stay away from that whole experience and all it entailed for awhile. the other
reason is i am super-duper excited about Cardinal , the new band I am playing in.
So I guess that means there is two shows i would like to tell you about:

Sat Dec 21st @ 2nd Avenue Pizza (Seattle):
Paxil Rose , Cardinal and Tinklepotty (from Hawaii)
(8pm, free, all-ages!!!)

Mon Dec 31st @ The Factory (B'ham)
A Sandcastle Still, Tom from Language Arts, Varonessa Gabrielle, Ben Harrick
(9pm, free - this is the second installment of a singer/songwriter
showcase hosted by George of Liquorbox and Foomph! fame)
