ALASKAS!
|
Alaskas is Dillon James Rego
website: www.dillonjamesregoisalaskas.com
label: www.highfivesandhandshakes.com
myspace: www.myspace.com/alaskasalaskasalaskas
Alaskas
is the musical explorations and experimentations of Dillon James Rego,
a current resident of Seattle, WA and formerly of Santa Rosa, CA. The project started in
January 2008 and has been described as a "one man positive vibes tornado squad" and "agressive post-grime
tribal punk." Alaskas has done 3 west coast tours and played numerous basement and
house shows around the Puget Sound. A
master of clever crooning vocal loops and throaty lip-beat samples,
Dillons
songs are often anchored by these layers upon layers of close mic'ed,
dance-beatbox madness. Above this overlapping prepetiion he sings
passionately, sincerely and honestly, often with a frantic need-to-know
compellingness. Guitar lines and other instruments scale the
songscapes, lending to the songs an edginess that roots them deep in
underground punk america. Alaskas is the creepy, quiet alchemist in the
dark, damp basement who compells you to try his new bright red powder
concoction. As you relucentantly try a sample and pucker at the
familiar scent and dry-sour taste, he laughs and affirms that it really
was just Cherry Flavored Kool-Aid. You didn't quite drink it, but you
definitely tasted it and left with a shit-eating grin on your face.
Alaskas has released one full length album and one EP and there are
currently two full-length albums in works. You can read a review of the
newest album "I Just Wanted To Give You Something Real To Hope For" right
here.

1985!
|
1985 is pronounced "Unifying Theories"
website: www.masarecords.com/1985.html
label: www.masarecords.com
1985 is the music and mystical musings of Matt Fu.
Though Matt has been writing, performing and recording since 1996 (in
past projects like A Sandcastle Still and the rock band Cardinal), this
project started in 2003 after a six month gap in creativity that was
inspired by a devasting car crash with a rock slide in colorado while
on a month-long A Sandcastle Still tour. Inspiration for the project is
drawn from the underground punk and indie movements and Matt Fu has
been on over 12 tours, 6 of them being month-long national tours often
via Greyhound bus. 1985 sings about politics, love, local cuture and
personas and living in/as light. 1985 is addicted to the songwriting
process, including many experiments in improv recording sessions, and
this decade plus of years has led to dozens of albums. Many of them are
available for free in their entirety at the MASA Records archive.org
collection.
Matt Fu is the founder of MASA Records and, when not on tour, the
proceeds from sales of records go to benefit social and political
causes. 1985, typically a solo project, has often been a band in the
past with members playing keyboards, trumpets, mandolin, light drums
and more.
